A professional income certificate is a Chartered Accountant's certified statement of the income a professional earns from their practice. It is designed for the specified professions, such as doctors, lawyers, chartered accountants, architects, engineers and consultants, and confirms gross professional receipts and net practice income for the period.

The CA prepares it from your ITR, your Section 44ADA computation where applicable, bank statements and profit and loss account, and certifies it with a UDIN. Patron Accounting LLP issues it for visa, loan and verification use.

What Is a Professional Income Certificate?

A professional income certificate is an official document issued and signed by a practising Chartered Accountant that confirms the income a professional earns from their practice. Unlike a general income certificate, it focuses on professional or practice income, stating the gross professional receipts and the net income for the period.

For many professionals this income is computed under the Section 44ADA presumptive scheme. The certificate is prepared from the ITR, the income computation, bank statements and the profit and loss account, and carries the CA's signature, stamp, membership number and a UDIN, which is why embassies, banks and institutions accept it.

If your income proof is needed across all sources rather than only your practice, our ITR filing for professionals support and a general income statement may be the better fit. For practice income specifically, this certificate is the appropriate one.

Key Terms for Professional Income Certificate:

  • Practice income: the income a professional earns from rendering professional services.
  • Gross receipts: total professional fees received in the year, the basis for 44ADA.
  • Section 44ADA: the presumptive scheme letting specified professionals declare 50% of receipts.
  • Specified profession: a profession listed under Section 44AA, such as medicine or law.
  • UDIN: the 18-digit Unique Document Identification Number on every CA certificate.

Which Professionals Is It For?

It is meant for the specified professions recognised under the Income Tax Act, including:

ProfessionTypical Use
Doctors and medical practitionersVisa, loans, hospital empanelment, verification
Lawyers and advocatesVisa, loans, financial standing
Chartered Accountants and CSsVisa, loans, professional verification
Architects and engineersVisa, loans, project and financial proof
Consultants and technical consultantsVisa, loans, client and financial verification
Interior decorators and other notified professionsVisa, loans, income proof

Many professionals are taxed under Section 44ADA, the presumptive scheme for specified professions. Under it, an eligible resident individual or firm (not an LLP) can declare 50% of gross receipts as income, with a receipts limit of Rs 50 lakh, raised to Rs 75 lakh where cash receipts are 5% or less of the total. Our certificate states your gross professional receipts and the income, consistent with your ITR and 44ADA position, so the figures stand up to scrutiny.

  • Gross receipts: total professional fees received, generally excluding GST collected.
  • Presumptive income: 50% of gross receipts under 44ADA, unless higher income is declared.
  • Above the limit: books of account and ITR-3 apply, with a tax audit where required.

Professionals need certified practice-income proof for visa applications, loan applications, financial verification, tenders and panels, and other personal financial needs.

Standards: SA 200, SA 500 and SA 505 govern the verification and certification, and the certificate carries a UDIN, mandatory since 1 July 2019, verifiable at udin.icai.org.

Accountability: under the Chartered Accountants Act, 1949, a CA issuing a false certificate is subject to disciplinary action.

What is a professional income certificate?

It is an official document issued and signed by a practising Chartered Accountant confirming the income a professional earns from their practice. It states gross professional receipts and net income for the period, often computed with reference to Section 44ADA, and is prepared from the ITR, income computation, bank statements and profit and loss account. It carries the CA's signature, stamp and a UDIN, and is accepted by embassies, banks and institutions.

Which professionals can get this certificate?

It is meant for the specified professions recognised under the Income Tax Act, including doctors and medical practitioners, lawyers and advocates, chartered accountants and company secretaries, architects and engineers, technical and management consultants, and interior decorators, among other notified professions. If you earn income from rendering professional services, a professional income certificate is the appropriate way to certify that practice income.

How is this different from a general income certificate?

A general income certificate by a CA covers your total income from all sources, including salary, business, rent and investments. A professional income certificate focuses specifically on your practice income, stating gross professional receipts and net income, and is framed for professionals taxed under Section 44ADA. If your income proof is needed in your capacity as a practising professional, this certificate is usually the more appropriate one.

What is Section 44ADA and how does it affect the certificate?

Section 44ADA is the presumptive taxation scheme for specified professionals. An eligible resident individual or firm, other than an LLP, can declare 50% of gross receipts as income, with a receipts limit of Rs 50 lakh, raised to Rs 75 lakh where cash receipts are 5% or less of the total. We state your gross receipts and income consistently with your 44ADA position and ITR, so the certificate matches your filed figures.

What documents are required?

You need your PAN and professional registration details, your Income Tax Returns for the last one to three years, your Section 44ADA or income computation, bank statements showing professional receipts, and a profit and loss account if you maintain books. The CA verifies these, confirms your gross receipts and net income, and certifies the professional income certificate with a UDIN.

How much does a professional income certificate cost?

At Patron Accounting, a professional income certificate starts from Rs 1,999 (exclusive of GST and government charges), an accessible fee in line with our visa and net worth certificate tier. The final fee depends on the number of years covered and whether a supporting computation of income is required. Fees are confirmed after a quick review of your documents.

Can I use it for a visa application?

Yes. A professional income certificate is widely used for student, tourist and visitor visas, where an applicant must demonstrate professional income and financial standing. It is often submitted alongside a net worth certificate, especially for family or student visa applications. Because it is CA-certified and UDIN-verified, embassies treat it as credible proof of your practice income.

Professional income certificate kaise banaye?

Apna PAN, ITR, 44ADA computation aur bank statements CA ko dijiye; CA aapke gross receipts aur practice income verify karke, ITR ke consistent, UDIN ke saath certificate jaari karta hai.
