What are the mandatory clauses in a copyright assignment deed?

Section 19 mandates: deed in writing signed by assignor, identification of work, specification of exact rights assigned, duration of assignment deemed 5 years if not mentioned under S.19(5), territorial extent deemed India only if not mentioned under S.19(6), and royalty or consideration payable to author or legal heirs. What is the difference between copyright assignment and licensing?

Yes in specific circumstances. Under Section 19A(1) if assignee fails to sufficiently exercise rights then Appellate Board may revoke. Under Section 19A(2) if terms are harsh to assignor the Board may revoke. Under Section 19(4) assignment automatically lapses if not exercised within 1 year unless otherwise agreed. Deed can also include mutual termination provisions. Revocation restores rights to assignor.
