How to read it
What the six characters of a port code mean
Every Indian Customs location code has the same shape: the country, a three-character location, and one character for the kind of station.
Example: INDEL4, New Custom House, IGI Airport, New Delhi
INDEL4
IN — IndiaCharacters 1–2. Every code in the ICEGATE list starts with IN.
DEL — LocationCharacters 3–5 identify the place or station, here Delhi.
4 — TypeCharacter 6: air customs station.
The code names the customs station where goods are cleared. It goes on the Bill of Entry for imports and the Shipping Bill for exports, both filed on ICEGATE, and it appears on export invoices.

- How many characters does a port code have?
- Six. IN for India, three characters for the location, and one character for the kind of station: 1 for a sea port, 4 for an air customs station, 6 for an inland container depot, and B or 2 for a land customs station.
