The change
The Harmonized System edition that split the line, the Finance Act that adopted it in India, and what is in force now.
Tariff item 3824 90 22 was a line of sub-heading 3824 90 (“Other”) of heading 3824 (“Prepared binders for foundry moulds or cores; chemical products and preparations of the chemical or allied industries (including those consisting of mixtures of natural products), not elsewhere specified or included”). Its 8-digit wording was not found in an official source and is not reproduced here.
The Harmonized System 2017 edition split sub-heading 3824.90 into 3824.84 to 3824.88, 3824.91 and 3824.99 (WCO correlation tables, HS 2012 to HS 2017, Table II). India adopted the new lines through the Finance Act 2016 (No. 28 of 2016), Fourth Schedule (“sub-heading 3824 90, tariff items 3824 90 11 to 3824 90 90 … substituted”), with effect from 1 January 2017.
The Harmonized System 2022 edition split 3824.99 again, into 3824.89, 3824.92 and 3824.99 (WCO correlation tables, HS 2017 to HS 2022, Table I). The Indian tariff follows HS 2022 from 1 January 2022.

3824 99 00Start with the group: the tariff divides these lines into 2 groups, each headed by its own wording. Pick the group that describes your goods, then the line within it.
A line reading “Other” takes the goods of its group that no other line in the group names. Specific lines come before “Other”.
The old line was split twice and its wording is unconfirmed, so no single current line is named as its successor. 3824 84 00 to 3824 92 00 each name particular chemical mixtures and preparations; 3824 99 00 (“Other”) is the residual line of the sub-heading, where goods not named in those lines fall.
GST rates are not repeated here: each current code's page shows its own GST rate entries.
About this page
The split of the old line follows the World Customs Organization's correlation tables between editions of the Harmonized System (WCO correlation tables, HS 2012 to HS 2017, Table II; WCO correlation tables, HS 2017 to HS 2022, Table I) and the Finance Act 2016 (No. 28 of 2016), Fourth Schedule, which brought the new lines into the Indian tariff. The current lines are taken from the Customs Tariff of India, First Schedule (Customs Tariff Act, 1975), CBIC edition as on 30 June 2024, with the tariff-line changes of the Finance (No. 2) Act 2024, Finance Act 2025 and Finance Act 2026 applied.
This is reference information on a code that is no longer a tariff item. It is not advice on how your own goods should be classified, and the official tariff and notifications prevail if the two ever differ. A change in the tariff re-opens this page for an update.
