Tax Residency — 182-Day Rule

Under Section 6 of the Income Tax Act, an individual is considered resident in India if present for 182 days or more in the financial year (April 1 to March 31). Alternatively, 60 days in the current year plus 365 days in the preceding 4 years also qualifies (with exceptions for Indian citizens going abroad).
