What is FSSAI Registration

The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India is commonly known as FSSAI. It monitors and manages how food products are manufactured, stored, distributed, sold, prepared, and imported. FSSAI comes under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India. It was started under the Food Safety and Standards Act of 2006, known as the FSS Act. The first step of setting up a food business is to obtain the FSSAI registration with the assistance of Patron Accounting. The FSSAI registration certificate provides assurance to customers of the safety standards and quality followed by your FBO and creates trust.

The FSSAI registration is a basic license compulsory for Food business operators or FBOs connected to the food world in India. The business type plays a role in deciding the FSSAI registration you require from the three options — FSSAI Basic Registration, FSSAI State License, or FSSAI Central License. You can check the official website of FSSAI to find out the registration you need to apply for based on the type of food business, turnover, size, etc., and consult with Patron Accounting. The FSSAI registration is for FBOs having a turnover of less than INR 12 lakh p.a. The State License is for FBOs with a turnover of more than INR 12 lakh p.a. or less than INR 20 crore p.a, and the Central License is for FBOs with a turnover of more than INR 20 crore p.a.

As the owner of a food business, you have to fill out and submit the FSSAI registration application form on the Food Safety Compliance System, i.e., the FoSCoS website. You need to fill in the details in Form A or Form B based on the type of food business you own and other factors. Form A is for the basic FSSAI registration, and Form B is for the State License and Central License.

    Step 2

After filling in the details in Form A for the basic FSSAI registration, you must submit the necessary documents with the application form and pay the fees. You can also visit the Food and Safety Department to submit the documents required for the FSSAI registration certificate.

    Step 3

The Department of Food and Safety will take 7 days from the date of receipt to accept or reject your FBO’s application for FSSAI registration. The Department thoroughly examines the documents, and a Food Safety Officer will visit the premises for an inspection before they provide the FSSAI registration certificate.
